Baldric
The Roman Officer's belt or sling, tossed over the shoulder
to support a sword. Often adorned with small disks. Many sculptures show
legionary to Centurions carrying their sword in this manor after the fall of the
Republic.
I started by cutting a one inch strip of leather, sewing trim, and then punching a hole for the split at the ends. The hole helps prevent the baldric from splitting all the way up.
I banged in brass upholstery tracks for the disks, clipped the ends, banged them over, and covered the sharp points with a strip of leather. (note, I did try to bang the clipped ends flat, like a rivet however; they would not flatten)
I then measure up the lengths to meet the scabbard rings, cut the lengths to size, and riveted them together.
After attaching the bottom strap first, I pulled on the upper strap before punching a hole and riveting it... I did that so the straps would hang evenly, to better balance the sword, and to look good.
